North Wollongong finishes strong at Sydney Water
Saturday saw the final round of the Sydney Water Surf Series at Shellharbour SLSC. The conditions were perfect and the vibe around the team camp was infectious! We finished off the comp with a fantastic 6 representatives in the top 5; and more than a dozen athletes placing in the top 10. A great achievement from our small club which represented with a team of over 40 competitors this year.
Our ‘Mighty U8’s’ had a cracker of an introduction to their first carnival season and dominated in the sand and wade relays with many podium finishes. They showed enthusiasm and pride and we are very proud of all their accomplishments. It was great to see the sea of red/blue/white on the sand!
Our U9’s showed they were not to be outdone and finished off the series with two FIRST place results. A huge congratulations to Brodie Smith and Holly Sheldrick for your outstanding efforts across the series – you are both true champions and the club is extremely proud of your accomplishments!! A big well done to Laila Norris who finished off in 9th spot and all the other competitors in this age group who raced with dedication and gave it nothing less than a 100%!
Our older age groups also showed some fine sportsmanship and racing with great results across sand and water. In sand, Regan Norris (U14) finished off in 9th position with Blake McKay (U14) not far behind in 10th place. In the water our girls showed their stuff with a fantastic 6th place for Montana Doubell (U10), 9th place for Dannika Creati (U13) and 8th for Brittany Tapia (U14). Regan Norris (U14) finished off in 5th place which earned her one of those fantastic backpack prizes. Great work!
A great result from all our Sandpipers – whether you placed or not, we our proud of the commitment and dedication you have shown and look forward to continued success across the upcoming carnivals in 2017.
But wait! There’s more – we have to acknowledge the fantastic achievement of Sian Bourke (U15) who as our lone senior female competitor finished off in 7th position. A brilliant effort, well done. Our Masters also strutted their stuff with an incredible 1st, 2nd and 3rd place on the leader board! Dan Ciguenza dominated the masters sand series with Pat Maloney and Daniel Doubell hot on his heels. Well done boys – its great to see our Masters team back on the sand!
A big thank you to all the parents, age managers and committee members who worked tirelessly through these carnivals. This cannot happen without your help and commitment.
