2. CONSIDER YOUR MEMBERSHIP COSTS
To cover many of the operation costs, North Wollongong SLSC requires all nippers and at least one parent/guardian to be financial members (Parents/guardians become Associate Members). There is no additional cost if more than one parent joins.
Membership fees for the 2021/22 (and 22/23*) season are –
Adult (parents/guardians) + 1 child = $150
Adult + 2 children = $180
Adult + 3 children = $210
Add $30 for additional children
NWSLSC accepts Active Kids Vouchers (we will require a scan of the name & voucher number)
*21/22 fees will carry over and cover 22/23.
3. REGISTER YOUR CHILD
All Nippers must be registered with the Club, and Surf Life Saving Australia prior to participating in any events.
Due to renovations at the club and current COVID restrictions we have not planned any 21/22 registrations days at the club and new & renewing members are encouraged to register online.
Online – Existing Members:
Check your contact details are correct and renew membership online on the SLSA website (http://www.sls.com.au).
Click here for a step by step guide on how to register online.
- All new members will also be required to provide ID (e.g. birth certificates, passport, drivers license).
4. CHECK YOUR CHILD/CHILDREN CAN SWIM THE NECESSARY PROFICIENCY
At Nippers we do not provide swimming lessons. We suggest that all Nippers participate in one of our local swim schools all year round, in order to prepare your child for surf sport activities. Children who do pool swimming regularly will be more capable in the surf and ultimately enjoy nippers more.
In order to participate in water activities Under 8 to Under 14 Nippers must complete water proficiency assessments, in accordance with Surf Life Saving Australia’s requirements, as soon as possible after registration at the start of the season. Under 6 to Under 7 participate in beach activities only.
We suggest that all parents used the guide on our Proficiencies page to check how your child is swimming in an Olympic sized swimming pool, prior to registration.
Every junior member is required to participate in this evaluation prior to any water-based activities being undertaken.
Note: It is not an assessment which if not completed competently precludes the child from becoming a member or continuing with junior surf education or training activities.
5. ATTEND OUR OFFICIAL PROFICIENCY SESSIONS
The pool swims will be held at the beginning of the season (to be advised but generally University of Wollongong pool). Subsequent swims are held as required at the Continental Pools, North Wollongong Beach. Members who are unsuccessful at their first attempt are encouraged to try again at a later time.
6. PARENTS COMPLETE A MEMBER DECLARATION FORM
As part of the Club’s statutory requirement, the Club is required to collate a signed Member Protection Declaration from each adult accompanying a Nipper.
Parents of Junior Activity Members who join as Associate members are required to complete the Declaration.
These forms are available on registration.
At North Wollongong Surf Life Saving Club, we understand that due to travel, holidays and our hectic lives you may not be able to attend our two official registration dates. You and your family may have also made the decision to join nippers once our season has already started.
We accept late registrations after the registration dates. REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE 30 OCTOBER 2021.
Simply, begin the process from the beginning, and contact our office staff to make payment. Attend the next nipper Sunday early, before 8.45 am and introduce yourself, to one of our friendly committee members or age managers, who will assist you. We will provide you with an opportunity to complete the necessary proficiency swim at the Continental Pool after Nippers on Sunday. Don’t forget a birth certificate.
